Chapter 284: Waiting for the Day I Am Free
Chapter 284: Waiting for the Day I Am Free
Summer Lowell suddenly realized: "Oh, Justin Huxley couldn’t reach me, so he went to you for news?"
"That’s right," Vivian Sullivan nodded, "I wasn’t sure about your situation either, so I just brushed him off. I was afraid of making a mistake because I didn’t know the specifics and causing you trouble, so I had to come here and ask what your plan is, just to be safe."
"I don’t have any plan," Summer raised her hand to point at the bodyguards occasionally passing by, "Besides, even if I had a plan, it wouldn’t matter now with Maxim Sinclair watching me so closely."
"From what you’re saying, you still want to leave?" Vivian leaned in, lowering her voice, "Do you want me to help? How about we swap clothes, you dress like me and leave, and I’ll stay here to cover for you. Maxim Sinclair wouldn’t dare do anything to me anyway."
Summer laughed and shook her head, declining Vivian’s suggestion: "No need, really. You’ve already been dragged into enough trouble because of Charles Jenson and me. I can’t bear to pull you into this mess any further."
"It’s not as serious as you say," Vivian bent down to let a cat go, then took out her phone, "Do you want to call Justin Huxley? I heard Maxim is currently abroad. If you want to leave, now might be a good time."
Summer’s smile turned peculiar at those words.
Everyone’s saying Maxim Sinclair is currently in Yorland to meet some important client personally.
They’re also saying it’s because Justin Huxley stole so much important business from him, causing dissatisfaction among the board and affecting his position within the Sinclair Group.
The rumors outside are detailed and believable.
But Summer didn’t believe a single word of it.
She’s certain that Maxim is still in Stellarion, perhaps secretly watching Justin Huxley.
Summer had seen the news early this morning and spent two or three hours on forums.
The most dangerous person now isn’t Maxim Sinclair, but Justin Huxley.
Even though online users suspect other members of the Huxley Family are plotting against Justin, as Maxim Sinclair’s close confidante, Summer was sure that all of Justin’s recent setbacks were orchestrated by Maxim.
Only he could achieve his goals without arousing suspicion and still shift the blame onto someone else.
"Let’s not get involved in this," Summer took Vivian’s hand, "Don’t worry too much about me. As for Charles Jenson, he seems pretty good, and more importantly, you seem quite happy with him. So why not give it a try?"
"So, what’s your plan?" Vivian asked her back, "Tell me your situation first. Justin Huxley will definitely come to me again. How do you want me to respond to him?"
"Just say you don’t know anything. Don’t tell him too much. And be careful of him. Justin is too greedy. I’m afraid that in desperation, he might do something to harm you."
Vivian seemed to partially understand. After a moment, she shook her head meaningfully and sighed, "I never expected this. I thought Justin Huxley was such a good person, but who knew he was so crazy and greedy beneath the facade."
"It’s not surprising. Given his background, he started as an illegitimate child," Summer sighed deeply, "But now, his pretense can’t hold any longer. Fortunately, we all see his true colors clearly in time."
Not wanting to continue talking about Justin Huxley, Vivian changed the subject: "What about Maxim Sinclair? Are you sure he hasn’t fled abroad because Justin hit him hard?"
"That’s what they told me," Summer smiled indifferently, bending down to pick up the cat and place it on her lap, "But as for the real situation, Maxim knows best. I don’t think he could be defeated by Justin that easily."
"I don’t think he’s that easy to beat either. Besides, Charles Jenson, as his right-hand man, doesn’t seem worried at all. Just a couple of days ago, he was excitedly talking to me about travel plans."
Vivian glanced sympathetically at the bodyguards peering over from time to time, patting Summer on the shoulder, "When will these dreary days end for you, being watched by Maxim’s people all day without a shred of freedom?"
"It’ll come, it will," Summer gazed up at the vast, blue sky, "As long as I patiently wait. What I have in abundance is patience."
One day, he will let me be free!
...
Tina Huxley suppressed her excitement, looking around at the stern-faced, unfriendly board members: "Justin Huxley is not suitable for the acting CEO position. I propose for everyone to vote on whether to remove him."
Sitting across, Julian Huxley caught her signaling glance and quickly chimed in: "I also think Justin Huxley is not fit for the position. For the company’s greater good, it’s better to relieve him of his current duties."
Justin Huxley watched coldly, and just as the hesitant board members were about to voice their opinions, he spoke up: "Let me remind you, despite what they said, I haven’t hit an impasse entirely. If I’m removed from this position now, who will take over? Who can guarantee they will manage it well?"
"You’ve only been in charge for a few days? Talking as if the company can’t run without you — aren’t you taking yourself too seriously?"
Tina quickly interjected to cut him off, as the situation was clearly in her favor, and she didn’t dare miss this opportunity.
If Justin walked out unscathed today, he’d certainly come after her for revenge.
She couldn’t let him leave without consequences.
Fearing she couldn’t suppress him, Tina cast a pleading glance at Mrs. Huxley, hoping she’d speak in her support.
Mrs. Huxley eyed the composed and unflustered Justin, and softly chided Tina: "With everyone here, the company won’t face problems. There’s no need to be so afraid."
"Exactly, sister Tina. Although dear brother has made some errors in a few business deals, it doesn’t mean I can’t handle them," Justin said cheerfully as if outsiders would only think he and Tina were genuinely affectionate siblings.
Tina looked at him coldly, feeling disgusted, yet showing none of it on her face.
Mrs. Huxley’s intervention made them hesitate further. In the end, they decided, for now, to let Justin remain as the acting CEO.
They would see how he handled things next.
After all, the company couldn’t endure the upheaval of continuously changing acting CEOs.
After the meeting, Justin enthusiastically escorted Mrs. Huxley to the elevator: "Aunt, I’m grateful for your support earlier. It really was a close call."
Mrs. Huxley didn’t want to look at him, but with people coming and going, she had to keep up appearances: "It’s okay, we’re all family. You should hurry back to work and solve these problems. If you don’t, the board won’t let it slide."
