Chapter 301: I Care More About Your Opinion
Chapter 301: I Care More About Your Opinion
"It’s okay, we understand your feelings. Take your time to think it over. All the relevant documents are in that bag. You can check them carefully. After all, this is a significant matter, and being cautious is understandable."
Mrs. Collins spoke as she approached Summer Lowell, reaching out her right hand but then restraining herself, tears in her eyes as she looked at her, "But you seem a bit too thin. I’ve heard that young girls nowadays love dieting, but being a bit chubby is more fortunate. Don’t deliberately starve yourself; you need to eat regularly or it’s bad for your health."
Summer Lowell was overwhelmed by her concern, hurriedly replied a couple of times, then grabbed her bag and fled.
Not long after she left the private room, Mr. Collins snorted, "What an ungrateful girl. Others would be tearfully grateful to know their biological parents have come. This dead girl is not only cold but even doubts what you said is fake. With such a ruthless heart, no wonder she would offend President Huxley."
"What’s the rush?"
Mrs. Collins disapproved and hissed at him, "I think she’s already starting to believe what I said. I also heard from President Huxley that Summer Lowell has been persistently looking for us all these years. She doesn’t know she was abandoned back then. That alone is enough."
"What, do you really want to acknowledge her back?"
Mr. Collins huffed angrily, "She hasn’t even returned, yet we’ve already been dragged all the way to Rivenland by her. And Bang, he’s still in custody by the police. If we truly take Summer Lowell back into the Collins Family, who knows what might happen! You better not have that idea."
"Oh, I was just saying that," Mrs. Collins hugged her husband’s arm, lowered her voice, and whispered in his ear, "Didn’t you hear what President Huxley said? This dead girl has clung to the richest man in Stellarion. While she still has something to offer, shouldn’t we gain some benefit from her? It took quite an effort to carry her and give birth to her back then. Childbirth for women is like visiting hell’s gate!"
Mr. Collins’s eyes lit up instantly at these words, "Coming all the way to Stellarion, suffering so much because of her; we indeed should reclaim something from her."
"Right, right!"
Varden Villa.
Summer Lowell sat restlessly on the sofa in the living room, zoning out. Next to her was the birth certificate of a baby girl named Laura Collins from twenty years ago, along with related documents, given to her by Mrs. Collins.
Her original name was Laura Collins.
Maxim Sinclair had just gotten off the car and closed the door when the butler urgently called him to a corner, "Young Master, the Young Madam came back very early today. She sat in the living room zoning out as soon as she returned, holding a bunch of very old documents. When I passed by to deliver tea, I glanced at them and discovered they were birth certificates from twenty years ago, and they belonged to a baby girl."
The butler could only provide this much information.
Summer Lowell’s reaction today was truly strange, and Maxim couldn’t help but feel suspicious.
Maxim Sinclair thought for a moment and realized who Summer met today: "Alright, I know. You can go rest, I’ll handle this matter."
He stood behind a decorative piece in the living room, looking at the dazed Summer on the sofa. He watched her for a long time before walking over, "What are you looking at so intently?"
Summer Lowell heard a voice and lifted her head to look at him, "When did you come back?"
"I’ve been back for a while. I didn’t want to disturb you since you seemed so out of it."
Maxim sat beside Summer, leaned over to glance at the pile of stuff in her hand, "What’s all this? You seem to be a bit out of it."
"Today at the company, a couple stopped me and claimed to be my biological parents. They started crying the moment they saw me. I was worried it would be awkward if others saw, so I took them to a café and talked for a bit."
Summer handed the pile of documents in her hand to Maxim Sinclair.
Maxim reached out to take them and casually flipped through, "What’s with these documents? They gave you these to prove they’re your biological parents?"
"I started to doubt first, then the woman claiming to be Mrs. Collins gave me this and asked me to verify it. She also provided a contact number, suggesting I reach out after confirming it’s accurate."
Maxim had seen similar documents before.
He knew the people who met Summer today were indeed her biological parents, but having abandoned their daughter back then and now finding her after her career succeeded, their intentions might not be pure.
"So what do you think?"
Maxim had little interest in the pile of documents. He casually tossed them onto the table, loosened his tie, took off his coat, and looked at Summer, "I’m more interested in your opinion."
"Aren’t you going to help me look through these documents?"
Summer pointed at the documents on the table, "I gave them to you so you could help verify if they’re real or not. I don’t have the relevant experience, but you’ve done so much business and surely won’t be easily deceived."
"Who says I wouldn’t be deceived? You’ve tricked me many times; have you forgotten?" Maxim smiled at her, then dialed, summoning Section Chief Grant from upstairs.
"Take these documents back and examine them. See if there are any signs of forgery."
Section Chief Grant flipped through the documents in hand. Recognizing it was the content she had investigated before, she looked at Maxim in confusion, asking with her eyes what this was all about.
Maxim subtly shook his head, signaling her to hold back and not ask.
Though the heartless couple had found Summer, Maxim still didn’t want her to know the truth about her abandonment back then.
The people were brought over from Rivenland by Justin Huxley.
For Justin to bring these heartless and foolish parents over, he must have promised them considerable benefits.
Maxim could certainly employ the same method to send them back to Rivenland.
It wouldn’t be hard.
Having them leave without a word again or come up with some other excuse to cover this up.
That would be better than making Summer sad.
Section Chief Grant left the living room carrying the documents, returning to work on the top floor.
Summer held a cup, gazing with complex feelings at the vase on the table.
Her long-standing fixation seemed about to be resolved, making it hard for her to believe.
The couple’s performance today truly appeared to be joy from regaining something once lost, with no visible trace of deceit.
"You still haven’t answered my question. How do you feel today? After thinking about your biological parents for so long, they’ve finally come. Are you happy?"
Maxim looked at Summer thoughtfully.
"Happy," Summer nodded honestly, "I always knew my biological parents were still out there."
