Chapter 740: Crying?
Chapter 740: Crying?
Just when Selena Kensington thought Cole Vaughn would not speak, Cole Vaughn spoke.
"When I was seven or eight years old."
Selena Kensington was slightly startled hearing Cole Vaughn’s answer.
This age coincidentally matched the time of Cole Vaughn’s mother’s death.
Selena Kensington asked another question.
"Were you willing to do it?"
Willing to undergo experimentation by The Godsbane Organization, to become their test subject.
This time, Cole Vaughn merely paused, then nodded.
Seeing Cole Vaughn in this manner, Selena Kensington understood.
A moment of complex emotions flashed in her eyes.
After seeing that Selena Kensington did not continue speaking, Cole Vaughn took one last deep look at her and then walked out of the office.
Once Cole Vaughn and Janine Linton left, Lynn Rhodes regained consciousness.
Her gaze still held a hint of confusion, subconsciously scanning the office.
Upon seeing Selena Kensington sitting on the sofa, Lynn Rhodes was surprised.
"Miss Kensington, when did you arrive? I don’t remember at all..."
Feeling a bit strange, Lynn Rhodes glanced at her own position, muttering, "Strange, when did I stand up..."
Seeing Lynn Rhodes had woken up, Selena Kensington restrained her inner thoughts.
The smile reappeared on her face, "I just came. Perhaps you’ve been so busy lately that you didn’t notice me."
"Oh, oh, yes... I have indeed been quite busy these days, sorry."
With an apologetic smile, Lynn Rhodes replied to Selena Kensington.
However, Selena Kensington’s explanation eased much of Lynn Rhodes’ earlier confusion.
After all, she really had been busy recently, and perhaps had unknowingly done something she forgot.
With this thought, Lynn Rhodes didn’t dwell on the earlier anomalies.
She sat back down on her office chair, "Miss Kensington, shall we begin?"
Selena Kensington nodded slightly, "Alright."
Later, because Selena Kensington had matters on her mind, she chatted briefly with Lynn Rhodes before hurriedly leaving her office.
Lynn Rhodes watched Selena Kensington’s departing silhouette, somewhat puzzled.
It felt as though Miss Kensington had experienced other things before coming to find her.
Lynn Rhodes shook her head, dispelling the thought from her mind.
Meanwhile, downstairs, Selena Kensington left Stardust with Hope Norwood and returned to the Norwood Family home.
*
After returning to the Norwood Family, Selena Kensington and Sterling Norwood had lunch, and Selena Kensington, her thoughts in turmoil, returned to her bedroom.
Upon entering, she silently sat on the edge of the large bed.
Selena Kensington couldn’t completely trust Cole Vaughn and Janine Linton’s words.
But if they truly intended to recruit her into The Godsbane Organization, it would be unlikely for them to lie to her.
Besides, she had experienced Sterling Norwood’s loss of control firsthand.
So, she was even more aware than they were of Sterling Norwood’s state when losing control. If not for Sterling Norwood’s remaining sanity and tolerance towards her, Selena Kensington might not have come through his loss of control unscathed.
Especially when Janine brought up the death of the Luminar Clan’s most outstanding descendant in a century.
As far as Selena Kensington remembered, when the Luminar Clan was discussed back then, both Lark Mayfield and Sterling Norwood looked unhappy.
They were likely already aware of the Luminar Clan incident.
Hence, the truth about the death of the Luminar Clan descendant mentioned by Janine Linton was probably true.
If...
If Sterling Norwood truly reached that day, what would Selena Kensington do herself?
Selena Kensington sat silently beside the bed, uncertain of how to proceed with her thoughts.
Originally, she believed that once The Godsbane Organization was dealt with, the greatest obstacle resolved, nothing would hinder them anymore.
Unexpectedly, the greatest obstacle turned out to be the bloodline within Sterling Norwood.
When Sterling Norwood walked into the bedroom, what he saw was Selena Kensington sitting quietly beside the bed.
She seemed deep in thought, not reacting even when Sterling Norwood walked in.
Sterling Norwood frowned slightly and walked over.
He squatted in front of Selena Kensington.
Sterling Norwood’s sudden entry into her line of sight made Selena Kensington freeze instinctively.
And when Sterling Norwood saw the faint redness at the corners of her eyes, his furrowed brows tightened more.
"Were you crying?"
His tone was calm, yet it carried an inexplicable pressure.
Selena Kensington snapped out of her daze, shaking her head slightly, "No, just spacing out a bit, my eyes were feeling a little sore."
While saying this, she discreetly observed Sterling Norwood.
Sterling Norwood’s demeanor and actions were no different from usual, yet ever since Janine Linton mentioned those things, Selena Kensington couldn’t shake the sense that his normalcy exuded an oddity.
If Selena Kensington remembered correctly, since Sterling Norwood woke from his Divine Awakening-induced coma, he had always been like this.
Since then, let alone losing control, she hadn’t even seen any other expressions or behavior from him.
It was as if, not only was the Sterling Norwood before her the human Sterling Norwood, but also Sterling Norwood as a Divine, the Lord of the Demon Beasts.
Listening to Selena Kensington’s words, Sterling Norwood nodded lightly, "Lie down for a while?"
Sterling Norwood recalled Selena Kensington going out to find Lynn Rhodes in the morning. Given how pregnancy can easily cause fatigue, he assumed Selena Kensington was a bit worn out from her outing.
Selena Kensington was not actually sleepy; her eyes felt sore only because she had been deep in thought.
But due to sitting idly by the bed for some time, she couldn’t help but yawn.
Noticing Sterling Norwood’s gaze, Selena Kensington hesitated, whispering, "I’m not tired..."
Sterling Norwood felt a bit resigned, a light smile playing on his lips, "Yes, you’re not tired. But you should still sleep for a bit."
After saying this, Sterling Norwood began helping Selena Kensington remove her shoes.
"..."
Though bewildered by the topic somehow circling back to sleep, Selena Kensington had grown used to napping several times a day during this period, so she obediently lay down on the bed once Sterling Norwood took off her shoes.
Seeing Selena Kensington behaving so obediently, the light smile remained on Sterling Norwood’s lips.
"Where are you going?"
Selena Kensington saw Sterling Norwood turning as if to leave and curiously asked.
Sterling Norwood paused mid-turn, "To the study to handle some matters."
"Oh..."
Selena Kensington responded softly, then, as though recalling something, spoke instinctively, "By the way."
Sterling Norwood turned back, looking at Selena Kensington.
Selena Kensington felt somewhat nervous but strived to maintain composure, "After your Divine Awakening last time, you haven’t had any aftereffects, have you? I don’t want you passing out suddenly again..."
The worry in Selena Kensington’s eyes was genuine, not a facade.
Especially as she unconsciously clutched the blanket in her hand tighter.
